Are the Patriarchs Real?

The existence of the Patriarchs has become a rather hot topic over the last few centuries, as many
skeptics have argued that the Patriarchs were merely a literary motif, created to give an already
established Kingdom of Israel, a sense of heritage, and a right to the land of Canaan. Yet over the past
few decades many archaeological finds have been uncovered which shed new light on the accounts of the
Israelite Patriarchs. These finds show the historical reliability of the scriptural accounts of the Patriarchs.
The purpose of this paper is to show that there is significant evidence to support the Genesis narrative, in
regard to the Israelite Patriarchs. The best place to start is always at the beginning, thus, before diving into
the details pertaining to the Patriarchal narrative, a discussion of the overall book of Genesis will take
place.
