Fear is a Powerful Opponent!

The Lord has put some things on my heart lately. If I’m honest with myself, they’ve been on my heart for some time now, but fear and uncertainty have kept me in denial. Fear is a powerful opponent. That is why time and time again scripture tells us not to fear.
“Fear not for I am with you.” – Isaiah 41:10

“God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity.” 2 Timothy 1:7

“The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear?” – Psalm 27:1

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.” – Psalm 23:4

“Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you.” – 1 Chronicles 28:20

“Do not fear those that kill the body.” – Matthew 10:28

This is not an exhaustive list, but it’s clear nonetheless. God does not want us to be afraid. He is with us in all that we do and He will never give us more than we can handle. Some strengthening passages in the midst of a hurricane of fear are:

“I can do all things through him [Christ] who gives me strength.” – Philippians 4:13

“Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” – Deuteronomy 31:6

“When I am afraid, I will trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me?” – Psalm 56:3-4

“For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. “ – Isaiah 41:13

“For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we may boldly say: “The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”” – Hebrews 13:5-6

So many times we think we have to do it all ourselves. We forget that God is our refuge, that He will carry us when necessary and walk beside us no matter what. We are not alone in life. We do not travel the path we have before us with no guidance or support. We travel it with the maker of all things. Our creator and the writer of the map! So when you’re afraid, know that there is always someone to turn to. Christ will never leave you alone and He is right there waiting for you to lean on Him. Fear not, for the Lord your God is with you!
