Life Has a Way Of Eroding
I spoke with an old friend last night and it reminded me of the plight of many Christians. Life is hard and we all experience different phases which leave us jaded and disillusioned. The romance of what life was supposed to be like has faded and the realities of life have a way of wearing us down until we are mere stumps of our former spiritual selves. Our first encounter with God has long since passed away and we find that the light and joy it once brought us has dimmed almost to the point of being extinguished. We remember the days when we received comfort and joy from our walk with Christ, yet we can’t seem to figure out how we ended up so far away from Him, nor are we aware of how to return to that communion with Him. The world has a tendency of eroding our spiritual lives, if left unmaintained, and one day we wake up and feel as though we are lost in a desert, uncertain of which direction will lead us home.
But the wonder of God is that He accounted for such times. It is written, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Christ has not walked away from us; He is where He has always been, waiting upon us to cry out for Him to intervene. God chose to reveal Himself to us in the person of Christ and through the Scriptures. The Bible is God’s self revelation to bring us to Him and feed our souls. When we’re lost and seeking guidance, His word will guide us. When we are disillusioned by the trials of this world, His word will inspire and renew us. When we are broken and empty, His word will heal, restore and fill us. And even when we are rejoicing, His word will rejoice with us.
If you’ve found that you can’t find God, if you’re uncertain how to return to the loving arms that once embraced you, if you’re jaded and disillusioned by the trials of this world, seek the one that is the healer and restorer of all things, through His word, the Bible. “But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night” (Psalm 1:2). Dig into the word of God and you will find Him. It is the way He chose to reveal Himself; you can always find Him there.
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” Matt 7:7-8
